Bone Marrow and Icebock
The mighty Jack Julian blew through Montreal last night. An unexpected stop over on his way to Toronto via Ottawa. A sudden phone call and request for directions to casa Colin, unfortunately it was 5 pm and Jack quickly became familiar with what is the nightmare of the Montreal rush hour, three calls later and he arrived at the door. Jack had been driving since 5 am, leaving Halifax after many a tearful goodbyes from a city of adoring friends. As Montreal loomed- he just plum ran out of mental gas and chose to lay up for the night then head out to Ottawa this morning. In celebration of this event and in conjunction with some idea that a debt was still owed to me for a replaced car stereo of years gone by (it was stolen out of his car while being lent to yours truly) we confer that we must eat an excellent Montreal meal and it is on him!! Jack quickly peruses the chowhoud website, a little gem he has discovered, for tips on Montreal dinning. I suggest L’Express, a great little spot on St Denise, but we see a few references to cranky staff and move on. After much clicking and pointing and dropping of addresses and names, Au Cinquieme Peche is settled on. We walked up to rue Mt Royal and west to the restaurant. I will not go any further into describing the culinary delight that followed. Jack took notes, which might well have gotten us a few extra treats by meals end, I will end with just a recommendation that anyone please go there and enjoy what they do to food. Today I am off to purchase video tapes for our video camera in preparation for the documenting of this journey and film for my very excellent old school Yashika 35mm film camera (we will process/develop on the road). The train to Toronto leaves the gate at 11:40AM Sunday.
